Hi, my kids and I live in Portland, OR, but have family in and around Lucca. We visited last summer and had a wonderful time and plan to come back again soon. I spend time searching for expat in Italy blogs about families and when I realized you were in Lucca, I felt I had to contact you! We have similar taste in music. I wonder also if you might know any kids interested in American pen pals? My kids are 6.5 and 10.5.

Hi Katie! Obviously you have great taste in music, blogs and vacation spots. Our daughter is 13, but I'll have her ask her friends' younger siblings if anyone is interested in American pen pals. I'll send you the info, if we have any takers.

Thanks! My 10 year old has recently entered a stage where he no longer thinks I have good taste in music, which I find hilarious and cute. I remember doing the same thing around that age and now I appreciate all the music my parents played when I was growing up.
I don't know if I just didn't go back far enough, but do you say on your blog how you picked Lucca to move to? From talking to my cousins who have moved to bigger cities (the older generation is still in and around Lucca), I expected to want to spend most of our time visiting other cities, but we LOVED Lucca! We go to see so many places that figure in our family history...
We did love Rome, too, though.

It is so funny, but Rome and Florence seem huge to me now. And living there for me would be the same as living in New York. We came to Lucca to renew our marriage vows at Fattoria Colleverde in Matraia about 20 min. from here. I was going to tell you that, if you don't stay with family, it is the perfect place to stay when the weather is warm -- colleverde.it

Thanks for the suggestion! We stayed inside the walls last summer and I would be inclined to do that again because we like walking around so much, going to little shops, etc. I think next time we come we will have to figure out having a car for part of the time... We have cousins who live up in a tiny mountain town and the bus doesn't go there!

When we were visiting, we got to go to the restaurant where my nonna and nonno celebrated their marriage, and they said it had hardly changed at all! It was magical.
