Lloyd Cole and the Commotions
Part two. "Are You Ready to be Heartbroken" by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, is what yesterday's song was about. Suave and hyper literate, Lloyd Cole was also Scottish and had a similar flair for the lush and dramatic as contemporaries like ABC or Aztec Camera. And it's something of a stretch, but it reminds me a great deal of Tunnel of Love-era Bruce Springsteen, and in fact Lloyd's later material--he has toured constantly for twenty years--has some echoes of the underlying country undertones of LA psychedelic bands like Dream Syndicate or The Gun Club, but I digress. Anyway, what a perfect little pop song--actually two, if you count yesterday.
