Feverish
Ever since I first heard this on Friday, I have been aching for you to hear Dengue Fever. The lead singer Chhom Nimol is from a famed pop dynasty in Cambodia and was performing in Cambodian nightclubs in Long Beach, California when Zac and Ethan Holtzman--brothers obsessed with the Cambodian pop music of the 1960s that incorporated American music that was played on the American military radio stations in Vietnam, as well as with Ethiopian soul music--came in search of a singer singing in Khmer. Shockingly, given that scenario, it's amazing. "Sni Bong" squeezes everything in and more, ending up with a sound that is exuberant, eerie, silly, fierce, and just captivating.
